2005

4 to 8 feet

Warm, glowing, and wonderfully fragrant, Gold Blush brings a beautiful touch of creamy white-to-apricot-gold to the garden. Its large, 3–4-inch blooms blend soft cream, apricot, pink, and orange tones, creating a warm, painterly display that seems to change with the light. And then there’s the fragrance: a rich, cinnamon-like scent that makes this rose especially memorable when in full bloom.

A vigorous yet mannerly climber, Gold Blush is wonderfully versatile in the landscape. Let its long canes tumble and mingle at the back of a border, train it along a fence or small trellis, or give it room to develop into a handsome specimen in an obelisk. Its upright, spreading growth and medium green, semi-glossy foliage provide an attractive backdrop for the warm-colored flowers.

The blooms arrive in spring or summer flushes, followed by scattered flowering later in the season. Removing spent blooms can help encourage additional flowering, while a little patience in the first couple of years will allow this vigorous climber to establish a strong framework. Once established, prune lightly, and periodically remove older, unproductive wood to keep it vigorous and blooming well.

Bred by John A. Starnes Jr. in the United States in 2003, Gold Blush is a cross of Rosa moschata × ‘Abraham Darby’. With its unusual cinnamon perfume, glowing apricot-gold blooms, and adaptable climbing habit, it’s a rose that brings both color and character to the garden.
